Paul Wilmes

Prof. Paul Wilmes (PW)leads the Eco-Systems Biology (EcoSysBio) group at LCSB. It aims to develop and apply molecular systems biology approaches to acquire understanding of mixed microbial communities (e.g., GIT microbiota), their interactions with the environment (e.g., the human host), and how certain microbial community compositions lead to certain outcome (e.g., pathogenesis). The group has developed a number of technologies that enable the systematic and high-resolution study of microbial community-driven processes. The overall objective is to use high-resolution molecular data obtained from microbial consortia to construct multi-scale models which will highlight key processes governing microbial community structure and function (e.g., perturbations triggering critical transitions) and which may inform control strategies for microbial communities in the future.
